Tea Cup Souvenir

Tea Cup Souvenir. Prismacolor Verithin Pencils on Strathmore Bristol Vellum.

If I remember correctly, my great-grandparents brought back this cup and saucer as a souvenir from a trip to Amsterdam in the 1970s. It now sits on a bookshelf in my home. If you tip it towards you and peer into the bottom, an image of a Japanese woman appears.

Old Mission Point Lighthouse

Old Mission Point Lighthouse. Pigma Micron pen and Prismacolor Verithin pencils on cardstock.

I've yet to replace my camera that was lost in Paris, so I again looked at my sister's photos of this latest trip for drawing inspiration. We visited this lighthouse at the tip of Old Mission Peninsula on a very windy and unseasonably cool day.

The Sketchbook Project 2012: Summer vs. Winter

The Sketchbook Project 2012: Opposite Day. Summer vs. Winter. Pigma micron pen and Prismacolor Verithin pencils.

You would think I'd have had enough of drawing jackets after last year's sketchbook project, but no, I drew one for this year's as well.

Illustration Friday: Sweater

It's still sweater weather here, but I'm really looking forward to the end of winter. Maybe that is why I'm gravitating toward anything colorful these days.

Sketchbook: Tomatoes

Tomatoes. Prismacolor Verithin pencils in sketchbook.

I took a little break from drawing after completing my Sketchbook Project, but I couldn't stay away from it for too long.

Sketchbook Project: Page 22

Pendleton Blankets. Prismacolor Verithin pencils and Pigma Micron pen in Moleskine Cahier.

These patterns looked fairly simple to draw, but they became much more time consuming than I imagined. Then the scanner did not pick up the colors as well as I had hoped. Sometimes that's just the way things go.

I often listen to This American Life or other radio podcasts while drawing. When I look back at the drawing, even months later, I can usually remember what I was listening to at the time. This drawing will always remind me of the episode Crybabies. Maybe I've stumbled upon a memory trick I can put to real use someday.

Bananas and Cherry Tomatoes

Bananas and Cherry Tomatoes. Prismacolor Verithin Pencils on Strathmore Bristol Vellum. Copyright 2010.

These looked so pretty sitting together on my kitchen counter, so I had to draw them.

Update: Prints of this artwork are now available through my Society6 store.
