Ottawa and Monroe Center
Ottawa and Monroe Center, Grand Rapids, Michigan. Uni-ball Vision micro pen and Winsor & Newton watercolors on Arches watercolor block, 10"x14".
This is what I did with my snow day on Friday--well, most of my weekend really. You can see here what it looked like before I added watercolor.

Tea
Tea. Winsor & Newton watercolors and Uni-ball Vision pen on Arches watercolor paper.
I cleaned up my tea cupboard and thought I'd draw this assortment to practice my hand-lettering.

Sewing Machine
Sewing Machine. Watercolor and pen and ink.
This is my mother's sewing machine, the one on which I learned to sew, and used to make all kinds of skirts and dresses that, for the most part, turned out not quite like I'd envisioned.

Old Schoolhouse
Old Schoolhouse. Winsor & Newton watercolors and pen and ink on Arches Aquarelle paper.
It's time to start posting my drawings here again. Lately, I've been finding Instagram to be far more convenient, but I still want full scans of my work. I completed this drawing last February, but it's from a photo I took in November 2013. The snow has started even earlier this year and has come in far greater quantities.

Roses
Roses. Dr. Ph. Martin's Hydrus Fine Art Watercolors on Arches paper.
This painting is inspired by a photo I took last summer at a bed and breakfast. I used Dr. Ph. Martin's watercolors for the first time and found the colors to be very vibrant.

Deer
Deer. Uni-ball Vision pen and Winsor & Newton watercolors on Arches paper.
When visiting the Washington, D.C. area this past spring, we took a walk on a trail that was supposed to have a view of the Potomac River. As we headed back from the less-than-impressive view, several deer appeared in the woods. These two turned to look at us for a moment before bounding away.

Cafe
Cafe. Winsor & Newton watercolors and Uni-ball Vision pen on Arches watercolor paper.
I've been trying to take reference photos of even mundane scenes from my daily life in hopes that I will have something to draw from later. That is how this drawing came about.

I drew this too large and couldn't fit the whole thing on my piece of paper. Oops.

Organ
Organ. Winsor & Newton watercolors and Sakura pigma micron pen on Arches cold press watercolor block.
This organ was in an old house where we stayed recently, so I took a photo of it, hoping to draw it later. I decided to draw with a pen rather than doing a pencil sketch first. It means mistakes happen on the page, but I think I'm okay with that.

Mt. Roberts Tramway, Juneau, Alaska
Mt. Roberts Tramway, Juneau, Alaska. Winsor & Newton watercolors on Aquarelle Arches cold pressed paper.
When I took a photo of the tramway, I thought it would be interesting to draw. Now nearly four years later, I finally got around to doing it.

Sketchbook: Video camera
Video camera. Winsor & Newton Watercolors in Moleskine watercolor sketchbook.
We have a few of these old cameras lying about since my husband was trying to find one still in working condition so he could upload videos from his high school and college days to the web.
